Alex Kurzhanskiy

My name is Alex Kurzhanskiy (not to be confused with my father, professor Alexander B. Kurzhanski). Currently, I am a postdoc at the University of California in Berkeley in the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science under the guidance of professor Pravin Varaiya, who was also my PhD advisor.
I actively participate in the TOPL Project where I am responsible for the development of traffic simulation and analysis tools.

My primary research interests are: dynamical systems - estimation, verification and control; PDEs (conservation laws) - numerical methods and inverse problems; set-valued calculus; robust convex optimization; networking and communication protocols; embedded systems; transportation systems.

I was doing my PhD in the EECS Department of UC Berkeley in 2003-2007.
Prior to that, in 1998-2003, I worked as a network engineer at Ditech Communications (now Ditech Networks), maker of optical communications equipment and voice enhancement products for telephone networks.
I received MA in Applied Mathematics from Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russia, in 1998.
